Personal Space - Visualize a Hula Hoop

Personal space can be such a difficult concept for children to understand. I am sure many of you have great ways for teaching personal space, but I wanted to share what I did for one student in particular.

I observed a little kindergarten boy in the hallway, as he was always unable to keep his hands to himself.  He was also not paying attention to where he walked most of the time, so he would walk right into people. The gym teacher came to me about the same child saying that he was constantly putting his hands on others in gym class. He had no sense of personal space!

Review: Preschool Math - part of Preschool Rocks Educents Bundle

http://affiliates.educents.com/scripts/click.php?a_aid=teachthrough&a_bid=b5af6d7f&desturl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.educents.com%2Ffeatured-deals%2Fpreschool-rocks.html
Do you have a preschool child or a child that is working at a preschool level? A wonderful bundle of 19 instant downloads for the preschool level is available on Educents right now, and it is a huge discount!  Buying these packs separately would cost $106, but you get a 71% discount on Educents to make the price $29.99. What are you waiting for?

I can say from experience that the Preschool Math pack that is included is wonderful. This pack was just what I needed for a couple students, and this review could not have came at a better time.

New Series: Inclusion Innovations with Mrs. Salsman

I have been truly stumped on a new series to start, since I ran out of ideas on Turbulence Tips. I have struggled with keeping up with posts, so I have started a plan for the new year. I am hoping to get back to regularly writing. I am sharing my healthy lifestyle journey with you on Saturdays, as I feel this is very important for teachers, especially when working with stressful behaviors. I had a very hard time with stress eating while teaching in the ED classroom, so now I am trying to keep stress lower and to get healthy. I have a couple other ideas for posts also.

The new bi-weekly series that I will be launching today is Inclusion Innovations with Mrs. Salsman. (Thanks to Brenda from Primary Inspired for helping me come up with the name and graphic!) I will be giving a tip in each post for Inclusion. These will benefit both special education teachers and general education teachers. There is a strong push here for students to be in the general education classroom, but as we all know, this is not always the best for the child.  I am hoping that I can give some insights in how I am making things work with my students both in the general education classroom and when they are pulled out.

Slim Down Saturdays: January 18th

http://thirdgradetidbits.blogspot.com/2014/01/slim-down-saturday-january-18th.html

Slim Down Saturday is here again, and it has been a rough week.  I am honestly really glad I have started these posts because it makes me want to continue, knowing I have support. If it wasn't for the great support that I do have in this journey, I may not have been as strong this week.

If you missed my post last week, I am joining up with Gina from Third Grade Tidbits each Saturday to share my journey to a healthier lifestyle.

Tim's Place - lunch, dinner, and hugs

Have you seen this yet? Tim, a man with Down syndrome, had a dream to own his own restaurant, ever since he was 14 years old. That dream has came true, and it is such a touching story! Tim's Place serves lunch, dinner and hugs.  The smile on his face and the compassion he has for others is awesome!  I would love to visit this restaurant in Albuquerque.

Tim proves that anything is possible, if you put your mind to it. We are all working with individuals with special needs in some capacity, and they each have their unique struggles, but it is our job to help them reach their goals!

Slim Down Saturdays - Join my journey to a healthy lifestyle

http://thirdgradetidbits.blogspot.com/2014/01/slim-down-saturday-week-2.html
A big goal for me this year is to lose weight and get fit! Many teacher bloggers have joined together to support each other in this common goal, and we are wanting to share our journeys with our followers also.  Since I have been having difficulties getting posts done each week, I thought this would be a good way for me to make sure I come over to the blog to do this post and try to get one other one done each week!  We will see how this goes, but I hope that you will support me and even maybe join myself and the other bloggers in our journey to a healthy lifestyle.
